V.I.P. Mortgage Inc.'s TPO Department is in a fast-changing environment with evolving turn-times, increasing use of technology, expanding product offerings, and more. We are looking for an underwriter who is technically strong, adaptable, flexible, and comfortable with rapid change while leveraging technology to drive results. The ideal candidate excels at underwriting and thinks proactively about improving processes, enhancing service, and strengthening relationships.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Underwrite 2–3+ new loans per day depending on file type, balancing speed and accuracy to support volume and operational flow, leveraging tools like Candor to streamline eligible loan files.
  • Maintain 24-hour turn times on all files to meet business and client expectations.
  • Clear "Underwriting to Clear" (UTC) conditions within 24 hour s , ensuring timely progress toward closing.
  • Evaluate borrower files, analyzing income, credit, assets, ratios, and collateral to affirm compliance with investor, agency, FHA, VA, USDA, HFA, and other guidelines.
  • Stay current on guideline updates, overlays, and program changes across all applicable investor and agency products.
  • Ensure precision in documentation, criteria, loan data, and underwriting specifics to uphold VIP's Corporate Risk standards .
  • Maintain high QC scores through accurate decisioning and strong attention to detail.
  • Serve as an overflow resource for Retail underwriting to help balance workloads across channels when needed.
  • Provide ongoing training support to the sales force, sharing insights, clarifying conditions, and enhancing their knowledge.
  • Assist Brokers and NDCs by walking through scenarios and clarifying conditions to ensure client clarity and satisfaction.
  • Contribute during slower periods by taking on ad hoc projects and process improvements that enhance client and AE experiences.
  • Embrace rapid change in technology, workflows, and turn-time standards , helping the team remain flexible and effective.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of mortgage underwriting experience, particularly in a TPO, wholesale, or correspondent
  • Direct Endorsement (DE) and LAPP/SAR certifications required.
  • Deep experience with FHA, VA, USDA, HUD184, non-Agency, and/or other loan programs a plus, with eagerness to adapt as we expand offerings.
  • Proficiency with Encompass LOS .
  • Experience and c omfort with tools like Candor i s a strong plus.
  • Exceptional analytical and risk-assessment skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Adaptability and flexibility. You should be ready to pivot as volume, priorities, and technology shift, and eager to take on new challenges.
