Job Description

Job Title: Legal Project Manager

Location: Washington, DC (Onsite)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Compensation: $140,000–$170,000 base (DOE)

About the Role

We’re seeking a Legal Project Manager to support a leading global law firm’s Litigation, Arbitration, and Employment (LAE) practice. This role is built for a data-savvy project leader who can partner closely with partners and lawyers to scope, price, plan, execute, monitor, and close complex matters—while driving efficiency, transparency, and profitability across the practice.

You’ll champion Legal Project Management (LPM) best practices, build actionable dashboards and reports, train teams on tools and methodology, and collaborate with pricing/finance, IT/reporting, knowledge, and marketing/BD to elevate service delivery.

What You’ll Do

  • Partner with partner/lawyer teams to manage sophisticated client engagements end-to-end: scoping & pitching, planning, resourcing, delivery, monitoring, and matter completion/reviews.
  • Design thoughtful fee structures using data, tools, and experience; track budgets, scope changes, and realization.
  • Provide on-demand LPM support for live matters; establish status cadence and “no surprises” communications for stakeholders and clients.
  • Build and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports; leverage SharePoint/HighQ/Smartsheet/M365 to standardize workflows and enable matter transparency.
  • Identify efficiency and innovation opportunities; embed best practices and introduce improved processes, templates, and tooling.
  • Liaise with pricing/finance, reporting/IT, knowledge, and marketing/BD to align LPM initiatives and deliverables.
  • Deliver LPM training, coach fee earners on tools/process, and support rollout/adoption of LPM software.
  • Contribute to practice-specific LPM playbooks; mentor junior team members and help prioritize work within the practice.

What Success Looks Like

  • Priced Correctly: Data-driven, client-tailored fee structures.
  • Managed & Consistent: Standard, high-quality LPM applied across matters.
  • High Quality & Efficient: Service meets client expectations while improving delivery.
  • Profitable & Transparent: Realization-focused with proactive, clear communications.
  • Innovative: Better outcomes through people, process, and technology.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum required).
  • Advanced Power BI (dashboarding, DAX, data modeling) and strong  SharePoint experience.
  • 2+ years in Legal Project Management (or closely related role) with advanced PM methodology knowledge.
  • High financial acumen; advanced  Excel for fee analysis and reporting.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, comfortable working with senior partners and cross-functional teams.
  • Proven track record driving change, implementing pragmatic solutions, and delivering measurable results.
  • Ability to influence, coach, and “sell” LPM as a chargeable value-add on live matters.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior  law firm or professional services experience.
  • JD or MBA (preferred, not required).
  • Recognized subject-matter expertise in LPM.
  • Understanding of the litigation lifecycle and/or internal investigations.
  • Experience with  HighQ, Collaborate, Smartsheet, M365 (Teams, Power Automate) .

Schedule

Core hours: Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., with flexibility for overtime as needed.

Onsite requirement: This role is based onsite in Washington, DC.
