Job Description Job Description SUMMARY Assists residents with activities of daily living and other direct care under direction of nursing and medical staff. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Percentages represent approximate time spent on function) ________ 75% Resident Care – Medication Administration Accurately and safely prepares, administers and documents the administration of all appropriate, physician-ordered medications and treatments. Ensures that all medications and treatments are administered following facility policies and procedures in a manner supporting resident choice and dignity. Observes residents closely, identifying concerns, changing needs, conditions, reactions to medications, and refusal to take medications, which must be immediately reported to the supervising nurse. ________ 25% Resident Care - Activities of Daily Living Assists with CNA assignments according to resident need and preference. Completes daily charting on resident ADLs, behaviors, etc. Provides an individualized dining experience to residents according to their needs and preferences. MMS employees excel by communicating with the facility staff to ensure we are meeting the needs of the residents serviced in each facility. MMS employees must adapt quickly to each facility and be productive throughout their shift. MMS CMAs are expected to assist and/or work as a CNA when requested by the facility. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Graduate of Certified Nurse Assistant Program recognized by the State of Kansas with current certification. LANGUAGE SKILLS Must be able to communicate adequately in order to understand and address the needs of all residents. Ability to read and understand written instructions regarding the care of residents and be able to document in writing the residents' response to treatment. REASONING ABILITY Ability to relate well with residents, family members and facility staff members and exhibit an attitude of kindness and understanding in challenging situations. CNAs work closely with all members of the facility team and honor all resident and family preferences through support, friendship, kindness, sincerity, communication and relationship building. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. CNAs often face heavy workloads and physical activity is required to perform the daily duties of a CNA. Because CNAs spend long periods of time assisting residents, the ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, reach, stretch, and lift a minimum of 50 lbs. is required. Must use universal precautions in all situations. Must be able to operate office equipment and various equipment and mobility devices (wheelchair, walker, gait belt, mechanical lift, etc.) used by/for residents. These operations must be performed with normal visual range, acuity, color determination, and the ability to distinguish letters and numbers. Good oral communication skills, the ability to speak clearly, and the ability to listen attentively with appropriate hearing acuity is required. WORK ENVIRONMENT The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Being in close contact with toxic, harmful, or potentially hazardous compounds, and solutions is also a possibility. CNAs often are exposed to loud noises, some unhygienic conditions and cleaning supplies, and will perform duties such as emptying trash, changing soiled bed linens, etc. A CNA must observe rigid, standardized guidelines to guard against disease and other dangers, wearing protective equipment when needed. A CNA must also work closely with residents, guests, and family in emotionally charged environments.
