Northpoint Mortgage, selected as one of the Boston Globe's 2024 Top Places to Work, is a growing New England-based mortgage lender seeking to add experienced Underwriters to our team. ESSENTIAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform mortgage credit analysis, with or without the assistance of an automated underwriting system to determine Borrowers' willingness and ability to repay the mortgage debt.
• Review and validate income, asset, credit, title, value, and fraud reports.
• Ensure all required property information is in system.
• Review title information and purchase contract, if applicable.
• Run and review quality control tools i.e., FraudReports and Early Check.
• Order and review Mortgage Insurance based on loan program. Ensure that system of record matches MI certificate.
• Approve or approve with conditions loan submissions after careful consideration and explore possible alternatives before resorting to a suspense or denial.
• Assist in resolving post-closing suspense issues.
• Must be able to evaluate and analyze complex income tax returns to establish qualifying income.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of 5 years of recent Underwriting experience in the mortgage industry is a must
• FHA DE-VA LAPP/SAR Preferred
• State Housing experience a plus
• Renovation Underwriting Experience strongly preferred
• Experience with (AUS) automated underwriting systems- DU, LPA, and GUS
• Working knowledge of loan program products, services, and policies is essential
• A thorough grasp of state and federal regulations is required as well as a solid understanding of: HMDA, Regulation Z, Regulation B; the FHLMC, FNMA, USDA, VA, and FHA rules and processes
• Experience with Encompass LOS a plus
• Genuine commitment to customer service
• Solid organizational and problem-solving skills
• Proven aptitude to work in both a team and individual environment
