SCOPE:
Under direct supervision of an RN, performs the technical, nonjudgmental aspects of medication preparation, distribution, record keeping and inventory control. Tasks are subject to sequential or final verification by a registered nurse. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. Specific state law may regulate that only licensed individuals perform compounding or mixing responsibilities. As a result, certain incumbents are prohibited from said tasks.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Adherence and Toxicity Monitoring Technician

Position will work closely with oral oncolytic nurse navigator to monitor patients receiving oral oncolytic medications. Primary responsibilities include telephonic monitoring patients through completion of standardized assessment that covers the following:

1. Assessment at specified intervals for adherence and toxicities in patients on oral oncolytic therapies.
2. Confirmation of patient understanding of medication administration instructions and how to obtain refills.
3. Compliance with treatment plan and communication of non-compliance (i.e. missed doses) and any identified concerns to oral oncolytic navigator. (Includes confirming clinical monitoring and follow-ups are on schedule)
4. Assessment for treatment toxicities and initiation of clinical follow-up as indicated.
5. Assessment for financial barriers to obtaining medication and referral for assistance as needed.
6. Documentation in EMR via standardized assessment/documentation format.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum three to five years experience in a pharmacy. Certified Pharmacy Technician certificate or State Pharmacy Board requirement recommended.
