As a  Mobile Upfitting Specialist (Level 2) , you'll take your craftsmanship and technical knowledge to the next level by installing advanced communications equipment, low-voltage electronics, and mobile systems into a variety of vehicles.

You're at the  second step of our five-level  Mobile Installation Career Path , advancing from  Level 1 Technician and paving the way to roles like  Lead Technician Shop Foreman , and  Mobile Upfitting Manager .

What You'll Do

With minimal supervision, you'll perform complete mobile installations and support custom upfitting projects in the shop or on-site.

Core Responsibilities

  • Install communications systems (radios, GPS, modems, cameras, etc.) in vehicles following safety and quality standards
  • Remove and reassemble OEM vehicle interiors to access wiring and routing areas
  • Solder, crimp, protect, and route low-voltage wiring, including multi-voltage charging systems
  • Drill, mount, and secure electronic equipment and hardware per specifications
  • Create clean, efficient wire routing paths to ensure long-term serviceability
  • Conduct quality checks on all work to ensure professional results before vehicle delivery
  • Troubleshoot technical issues as needed during installation
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area with well-organized tools and parts
  • Prepare and assemble components ahead of time to stage installations
  • Complete accurate documentation (job tickets, timesheets, reports)
  • Provide excellent customer service and professionalism in both shop and field settings
  • Travel as needed for mobile installation projects—local and occasional overnight
  • Continuously learn new products and techniques from peers, vendors, and industry trends

What You Bring

Experience & Knowledge

  • High school diploma required; technical training or trade school preferred
  • At least 1–2 years of experience in mobile electronics installation, car audio, alarms, or GPS systems
  • Proficient with soldering, wiring, low-voltage systems, and vehicle interiors
  • Familiarity with 12-volt systems and basic electrical theory
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to safely use hand and power tools
  • Experience in auto body, shop work, or aftermarket upfitting is a plus
  • Basic computer skills for completing documentation and reports

Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License with a Clean Driving Record
  • (Major driving violations are disqualifying: DUI, reckless driving, hit & run, etc.)
  • Current or Previous MECP Certification (Basic level or higher preferred)
  • Able to lift heavy equipment, work in tight spaces, crouch, bend, and stand for long periods
