Job Description

JOB TITLE: Medical Assistant Supervisor

SUMMARY: Oversees the daily operations and clinical performance of the Medical Assistant (MA) team. This role ensures high-quality patient care, efficient clinic workflows, and compliance with clinical standards, policies, and regulatory requirements. The supervisor provides leadership, training, and performance management for the MA staff, while serving as a liaison between providers, clinical staff, and administration.

FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Serve as a role model by demonstrating clinical excellence, professionalism, and a patient-centered approach.
Supervise, schedule, and coordinate daily assignments of Medical Assistants across all clinic areas.
Monitor staff performance and provide regular feedback, annual reviews, and professional development plans.
Conduct ongoing education and competency assessments for existing staff.
Assist with patient care as needed, including rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, and performing clinical procedures within scope.
Manage inventory of clinical supplies and ensure proper equipment maintenance.
Approve staff timecards and manage requests for time off.
Support scheduling, coverage, and operational planning for the clinic.
Address employee concerns, resolve conflicts, and escalate issues as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS:


High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or higher preferred.
Current certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) strongly preferred.
Minimum 3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting.
Prior leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of clinical workflows, EMR systems, and medical terminology.
Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to lead a team with professionalism, fairness, and accountability.

ENVIRONMENTAL / WORKING CONDITIONS:


Work is performed in a clinical office environment with frequent contact with staff, patients, and the public.
May involve stressful situations and interactions with upset or angry individuals.
Requires the ability to maintain professionalism and composure in challenging circumstances.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:


Requires periods of standing, walking, sitting, bending, and reaching.
Ability to lift or move patients and supplies up to 25 pounds.
Manual dexterity required for clinical procedures, office equipment, and computer use.
Must be able to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and function effectively under stress.
