Orlando Health Jewett Orthopedic Institute, one of the region's largest providers of orthopedic and sports medicine, is looking for a dedicated medical assistant. Our team specializes in treating conditions and injuries of the spine, hand, upper extremities, foot, ankle, and lower extremities, as well as joint replacement, concussions, interventional pain management, bone health, and orthopedic trauma. Position Overview: Performs patient care under the direction and supervision of the physician or advanced practice provider (APP) in an ambulatory setting. Acts as a medical scribe for a provider in the ambulatory setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician, including but not limited to: patient medical history and physical exam, procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, patient education and explanations of risks and benefits, physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow-up, prepare referral letters as directed by the physician.
  • Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
  • Embraces and participates in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities.
  • Supports and demonstrates effective and professional communication with patients and family members.
  • Works collaboratively with the administrative and operations staff.

Qualifications:

  • Education/Training: High school graduate or equivalent. Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school (or at least one (1) year of verifiable and applicable work experience as a Medical Assistant in a patient care setting in addition to the experience required under the Experience section) is required. Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Scribe training program.
  • Licensure/Certification: Maintains current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification; and Hold completion certification of a Scribe training program; and Maintains current certification by one of the following agencies: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by National Healthcareer Association (NHA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) by the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) or Nationally Registered Certified Advanced Medical Assistant (NRCAMA) by the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Medical Technologists (AMT), the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), or by American Allied Health (AAH). Applicants with an accepted Medical Assistant certification or registration from an agency not listed will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Experience: Minimum three (3) years as a Certified Medical Assistant.
