Job Description

FMNE Insurance is seeking an Auto Underwriter to join our Auto Underwriting Department. The role focuses on maintaining a reputation for sound risk management and exceptional policyholder care. Role Overview This position is responsible for analyzing new applications and endorsement requests to select risks that are acceptable based on established company rules and guidelines. Responsibilities Demonstrate the company’s mission and core values. Analyze and evaluate applications and endorsement requests to approve or decline in accordance with company rules and guidelines. Maintain calendar binders for effective dates and follow up on pending requests. Communicate with agents, applicants, and policyholders via phone, e‑mail, or in writing regarding questions or additional underwriting information. Handle unsolicited phone calls that originate outside the company. Engage in person with agents and policyholders concerning underwriting questions or policy changes. Assist agents in calculating quotes on new risks. Handle routine policy cancellations and, if needed, calculate unearned premium. Coordinate the allocation of policy premiums with the Accounting Department. Handle late and insufficient funds premium payments, including re‑underwriting policies. Ensure smooth workflow and assist in training employees and/or overseeing their work as required. Stay current on underwriting rules and regulations. Provide technical guidance to underwriters and clerical employees. Maintain regular and timely attendance in the office, which is an essential function of the position. Skills & Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred. Minimum two years of experience in the insurance industry preferred. Proficient in using a personal computer, including familiarity with standard business software applications such as Microsoft Office Suite. Demonstrated ability to perform detailed, precise work; take ownership of responsibilities; and collaborate effectively as part of a team.
