The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing support and guidance to individuals struggling with substance abuse issues. This role involves assessing clients' needs, developing treatment plans, and facilitating individual and group therapy sessions. The Substance Abuse Counselor will work collaboratively with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care. Responsibilities Conduct thorough assessments of clients to determine the extent of substance abuse and related issues. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on client needs and goals. Provide counseling services including behavioral therapy, psychotherapy, and family counseling. Facilitate group therapy sessions to promote peer support and recovery strategies. Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with legal and ethical standards. Utilize medical terminology and knowledge of ICD-9 codes when documenting patient progress and treatment outcomes. Collaborate with healthcare providers to coordinate care for clients in a hospital setting or outpatient facility. Monitor clients' progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary to ensure effective care. Educate clients and their families about substance abuse, recovery processes, and available resources. Implement behavior management techniques to support clients in achieving their recovery goals. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred. Certification or licensure as a substance abuse counselor is highly desirable. Experience in child family counseling, mental health counseling, or patient care is a plus. Strong understanding of medical documentation practices and behavioral therapy techniques. Familiarity with medical terminology, including ICD-9 coding, is beneficial. Excellent communication skills with the ability to empathize with clients from diverse backgrounds.
